F.A.Q.s

Q. Are sleep studies painful?

A. Absolutely not. The sensors we use to monitor your brain waves, breathing, and heart rate are attached to you with adhesive gel and tape. There are no needles involved in the testing procedure.

Q. How long does the test take?

A. Sleep studies generally take a minimum of six hours, however, depending on how long it takes you to fall asleep, some studies require as much as eight hours to complete. The majority of studies are completed by 7:00am.

Q. My study is scheduled for the night before I have to work. Will I be able to get to work on time?

A. In most cases, yes. Please let us know the time you need to be at work following your test and we will make every effort to have your test completed in time. For your convenience, a private shower is available.

Q. May my spouse/significant other come with me?

A. Yes. In the event that someone needs to stay with you on the night of your study, some of our sleep suites have sleep recliners to allow a spouse or significant other to stay with you during your test. Due to the nature of the test, we do not allow anyone to sleep in the bed with you.

Q. What should I wear?

A. The sensors we attach to you to perform the study only require us to have access to your head, shoulders, and lower legs. Therefore, any pajamas with short pants, knee-length night gowns, or shorts with a t-shirt are fine. Respectfully, we ask that you refrain from sleeping in the nude.

Q. Will there be a television in my room?

A. Yes. We allow patients to watch some television while they relax before going to sleep. In order to have adequate time to complete your study, you may be asked to turn the television off at a certain time.

Q. Will I have a private room?

A. Yes. All of our sleep suites are private.

Q. Will I be able to use the restroom during my test?

A. Yes. You can use the restroom at any time.

Q. May I bring my own pillow.

A. Of course. We provide two pillows on each bed, but you are welcome to bring your own. You can even bring your own blanket if you would like.

Q. Will I be able to smoke?

A. Somnium Diagnostics is a smoke-free facility. Once your test begins, you will not be able to leave the facility until your test is completed.

Q. What if I can’t find the answer to my question on your website?

A. You can call our office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and
5pm. Our staff will be happy to provide you with the information you need.
